A few weeks ago I hosted what I would deem a somewhat unusual wine tasting in London including a dog picnic in The Regent’s Park! The experience was brought to life thanks to our friends at Locals.org, an innovative app cofounded by model Natalia Vodianova, where users create their own experiences on which other users can bid, with all proceeds go to the selected charity by the host.
We came together in London’s ‘Regent’s Park’ on a sunny Saturday afternoon, with over 20 strangers showing up with their best friends. While the owners spent their time learning the ABC’s of wine, their pooches spent the time getting to know each other equally as well!
The tasting was provided by new Australian wine brand Leaps and Bounds. Leaps and Bounds takes inspiration from man’s best friend, an (not so) unlikely winery personality . In Australia, they say that behind every great winemaker there is a great dog, a tale that we at the picnic definitely understood.
Two wines were shared: a Chardonnay celebrating the story of Pickles, a Border collie who managed to locate a stolen World Cup trophy in 1966, and a Shiraz honouring Bob, an ownerless hound who travelled solo across the Australian outback on a train. Fun wines with fun stories.
A Saturday afternoon shared amongst a bunch of strangers and their dogs over a glass of aussie wine? The best Saturday in a while!!
